RACE COURSE description 2012 TECATE SCORE BAJA 1000: TOTAL MILEAGE: 1,121.55 miles / 1804.96 kilometer (8 physical checkpoints, 70 visual checkpoints plus the finish line). Starts on Blvd. Costero, adjacent to the Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center in Ensenada; Finishes adjacent to SCORE Headquarters Grand Plaza hotel and the Baja California Sur tourism office on the outskirts of La Paz. From the start in Ensenada the course will go east to Ojos Negros. The course starts on the Pacific Ocean-side of Baja California in Ensenada and heads southeast to San Felipe on the Sea of Cortez before heading south through Coco’s Corner, Bahia de Los Angeles, San Ignacio, back to the Pacific at San Juanico, then back to the Sea of Cortez at Loreto, back to the Pacific at Ciudad Insurgentes heading down along the Pacific through Santa Rita before turning back east and down into La Paz for the finish. This year’s course has 12 speed zones with a maximum speed limit of 60mph - 96.56km/h for a total of approximately 170 miles - 273.58 kilometers. This year’s race course will feature 8 outlying checkpoints where each vehicle is required to quickly stop before continuing on.
