ANDY MCMILLIN, No. 31 (First in class and first overall four-wheel vehicle. Andy started and drove to Race Mile 200, Scott McMillin drove from RM 200 to RM 511 and Andy drove from RM 511 to the finish.) – We started 10th. At the Baja 500, Bryce (Menzies) started in front of me and put a spanking on me so I didn’t want to let that happen in this race. I got a pretty quick pace off the starts and splashed fuel at mile 77 and by the time we got to the summit, I nerfed Larry Roeseler, got around Rob MacCachren, passed Curt LeDuc, Jesse Ashcraft. MacCachren got me back later in the summit and we were battling back and forth off his bumper until he pitted for fuel. Menzies was out front and I got by Kory Scheeler on the silt bed and I just started putting my pedal forward. I knew we were going to change drivers at Borrego and put my dad in so I wanted to get a couple of minutes on everyone just in case. Unfortunately, we had a three-and-a-half minute pit stop and we took off out of there in third and my dad had a flat tire. My dad did a great job on the San Felipe loop. We kept our pace and kept our position and Bryce was doing work out front and was running away with it. Luckily he had a little issue and we were able to make up time. I got back in the truck and Bryce pulled over for fuel and we got around them. That was the most intense race I’ve ever been a part of. I was 30 seconds to them and Bryce was 30 seconds to me on the beach. It was a freight-train free-for-all. It was such a blast. It was so much fun. I’m glad to win my second Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 with my dad. It means a lot.
CO-DRIVER SCOTT McMILLIN said: He (Andy McMillin) gave me the roughest part to drive; it kicked my butt. It’s amazing that after almost 700 miles we are sitting here with three teams and any one of us could have won. My hat is off to them. They did a great job and made us a better competitor. Sal (Fish), you just keeping making this race tougher and harder and I was just squinching all the way around that 250 miles. For our family, this has been a tradition. This is the 35th year our family has been racing this. My brother’s coming in, I’ve got my daughter out there and Mark’s other son and my dad is looking down on us and taking care of us.

Andy & Scott McMillin capture Trophy Truck, overall 4wheel victory

For the second time in three years, the Southern California son and father race team of Andy and Scott McMillin have etched their names again on the granite history of the world’s most legendary desert race and along with the team of Kendall Norman/Quinn Cody/Logan Holladay advanced their part in motorsports history by capturing the overall 4wheel and 2wheel victories in the 44th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race. The season finale of the five-race 2011 SCORE Desert Series ended late Saturday in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.
Andy McMillin, 24, and his father Scott McMillin, 51, of San Diego, teamed as they did in this race in 2009 to capture the overall 4wheel title in the granddaddy of all desert racing in their No. 31 McMillin Realty Ford F-150 SCORE Trophy Truck. The featured SCORE racing division has a race-high 29 starters.

Norman, Santa Barbara, Calif., Cody, Los Olivos, Calif. and Holladay, Buellton, Calif., team on the No. 1x JCR Honda Racing Honda CRF450X withstood the challenge to cover the 705-mile course in the fastest time of all 278 starters in the race. In the unlimited Class 1 that had 25 starters, 18-year old Justin Davis, Chino Hills, Calif., powered his Chevy-powered ESM open-wheel desert race car to his third class win of the year in his first year in the ultra-competitive class.

After complete review of the data tracking devices used by each vehicle in the race and with time penalties assessed accordingly for course deviations and/or speeding on the brief pavement seconds used as part of the race course, the results were declared official by SCORE International officials on Sunday morning.
As the finish line in the heart of Ensenada closed Saturday night at 10:18 p.m. PST for 155 official finishers in the 44th annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, it was obvious that another memorable and colorful chapter had been added to the legacy of this popular desert race in the northern part of the magnificent Baja California peninsula.

For the first time in race history, SCORE Trophy Trucks were required to re-start at race mile five after a local construction big rig truck jack-knived, rolled and block the course. With the course mileage adjusted to 700 miles for the marquee SCORE racing division for high-tech, 850 horsepower unlimited production trucks, 13 SCORE Trophy Trucks began starting at 11:17 a.m. (PST) but were forced to stop as the construction truck blocked the race course. SCORE officials decided to move the other 16 vehicles in the class in caravan-style to race mile five where they officially began to leave the start line at 12:23 p.m.

This incident forced the balance of the classes to be pushed back one and a half hours to begin starting at 1:03 p.m. This year’s race started for the 37th time and finished for the 21st time in Ensenada. The race started and finished on Boulevard Costero adjacent to the picturesque Bahia de Todos Santos in front of the historic Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center in the heart of Ensenada.

As all three top finishers crossed the line physically within one total minute of each other, the Vanderwey team earned their best finish in SCORE’s marquee racing division in this class in this race with a time of 14:54:11 (46.97mph) while Menzies, who secured the 2011 SCORE Trophy Truck and SCORE Overall point championship with his third place finish as a SCORE rookie racer, completed the course in 14:55:40 (46.90mph).

Fourth overall and in SCORE Trophy Truck was Andy’s uncle and Scott McMillin’s brother, Mark McMillin, El Cajon, Calif. who with his son Daniel McMillin, La Mesa, Calif. and Chuck Hovey, Escondido, Calif., ran a time of 15:19:53 (45.66mph) in their No. 23 McMillin Racing Ford F-150.

Adding to the McMillin family legacy in SCORE Baja racing, Mark’s youngest son Luke McMillin, 18, El Cajon, Calif., with driving assistance from Justin Smith, Capistrano Beach, Calif. won Class 1/2-1600 for the second time this season and the first time in this race to secure the season point championship his class for the second straight year in an AlumiCraft-VW.

Capping off the most spectacular SCORE race in the McMillin family’s 36-year history of SCORE desert racing, Scott McMillin’s daughter, Jessica McMillin, 26, overcame an early rollover near Ojos Negros to finish the season undefeated with five wins with her victory Saturday in the Protruck class in the No. 1331 McMillin Realty Ford F-150. She was the only SCORE racer this season to win her class in all five SCORE Desert Series races. Jessica, Andy, Daniel and Luke McMillin are all third-generation SCORE desert racers, continuing the lasting legacy left by family patriarch Corky McMillin, who passed away in 2006. Jessica McMillin also earned the SCORE Protruck class championship for the season.

Finishing a career-best fifth overall and in SCORE Trophy Truck was Clyde Stacy, 66, of Bristol, Tenn., who with Juan Carlos Lopez, Tecate, Mexico, finished in 15:40:38 (44.65mph) in the No. 18 RPM Off-Road Chevy Silverado.

Finishing seventh overall after starting first in SCORE Trophy Truck in the No. 54 Chevy Silverado was reality TV personality Jesse James, Austin, Texas who covered the course splitting the driving with Jeff Geiser, Phoenix, in 16:24:02 (42.68mph). Enjoying his best season in 10 years of SCORE desert racing, James finished in the top 10 in his class in all three races he ran in 2011.

We started sixth and Curt (LeDuc) set an easy pace, wanted to take it easy and got over the summit and then he threw on the boosters and took off. I’m still catching my breath. This was something else.

Baja 1000 best story in a long time. Kane Fraser, a paraplegic watched the “Dust to Glory” movie last year and said to himself “I can do that”. So he gets a UTV (Razer 900), pimps it out including hand controls and heads to Baja and the start line for the Baja 1000 2011. Out in front in the middle of the night he misses a turn and heads off towards the Mike’s section without doing the San Felipe loop! He figures out his mistake (awful fast race vehicles as of Trophy Trucks coming in FROM BEHIND), got an access road back to Valle de Trinidad and then the highway back to Borego. Doing so he does about +/- 100 extra miles at night, at Baja. Now – not confirmed -, this Canadian did a) never race before, b) never been to Baja Mexico and c) never been to the desert!! Is that guy one of the famous “Crazy Canucks” out of the late 70′s – early 80′s ????

One this is sure – he is the hero and emotional winner of the 2011 Baja 1000!! At 3:30hr Sunday morning the social media is buzzing about #1802 and Kane Fraser finishing the Baja 1000 almost 2 days after he started!! Trophy Truck #7 Team, themselves timed out of the race after problems most of the race with technical problems gave some support and follow #1802 in to the finish to Ensenada as rolling back-up just in case…. Lot’s of folks been following the progress all night at several discussion boards and on Facebook.

Join Cameron and his crew as they hop in the four-seat buggy and charge through some gnarly terrain and take a listen to the wisdom Cam has to share! As a Baja legend, Steele has a depth of knowledge and appreciation for the rugged Baja peninsula and is about to unleash it on race day. Starts and finishes on Blvd. Costero, adjacent to the Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center in Ensenada. From the start in Ensenada the course will go east to Ojos Negros for just over 35 miles which will be raced in both directions during the race. From Ojos Negros, the course will travel in a clockwise direction.

From Ojos Negros, the course turns South to El Alamo and then east up through the Summit and makes a South turn at Cohabuzo Junction and on to the the infamous Laguna Salada, paralleling Mexican Highway 5. Next is San Felipe loop where the course will cover some of the rugged MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 course including the magnificent Matomi Wash.

After the San Felipe loop, which travels in a counterclockwise direction from and back to Borrego, the course will head north and northwest, joining Highway 3 for a short distance to the Mike’s Sky Ranch turnoff. Then the course heads to the Pacific Ocean below San Vicente and past Erendira, back inland up through Santo Tomas then turning northeast just past Uruapan winding its way back to Ojos Negros for the final charge back to Ensenada. This year’s race course will feature 6 outlying checkpoints where each vehicle is required to quickly stop before continuing on. Video footage provided by Monster Energy.

27 SCORE racers remain in hunt for Toyota Milestone awards heading to season ending 44th annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. Following the fourth of five races in the 2011 SCORE Desert Series, 27 of SCORE’s toughest drivers remain in the hunt to earn 2011 SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards.
Leading the way are eight racers in the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division and four in the Class 1 for unlimited open-wheelers.
The eight SCORE Trophy-Truck drivers who have completed every race mile so far this season are: Bryce Menzies, Las Vegas (No. 70, Ford F-150), Rob MacCachren, Las Vegas (No. 20, Ford F-150), Gus Vildosola Jr., Mexicali, Mexico (No. 21, Ford F-150), Pete Sohren, Phoenix (No. 2, Ford F-150), Gary Weyhrich, Troutdale, Ore. (No. 98, Ford F-150), Adam Householder, Orange, Calif. (No. 24, Chevy Silverado), Jesse Ashcraft, San Marcos, Calif. (No. 78, Ford F-150) and Ken Losch, Tempe Ariz. (No. 10, Chevy Silverado).
Nearly entries are expected to compete in 35 Pro and 6 Sportsman classes for cars and trucks in the upcoming 44th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, the granddaddy of all desert races. The season finale of the five-race 2011 SCORE Desert Series will be held Nov. 17-20 in Ensenada, Mexico. With late entries accepted up until race morning, entries from nearly 35 US States and 15 countries are expected to take the green flag in the 692.82-mile course.
Pre-race festivities will be held in Ensenada on Thursday, Nov. 17, and the elapsed-time race will start at 6:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 18 with a 32-hour time limit. The awards celebration will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20, poolside at the San Nicolas Resort in Ensenada.

Toyota is presenting these prestigious awards to the world’s toughest desert racers for the 26th consecutive year. The Toyota Milestone awards will go to those pro car and truck drivers who finish every required mile in the five-race 2011 SCORE Desert Series, the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Series.

“Toyota is proud to honor the world’s best desert racing drivers,” said Les Unger, national motorsports manager at Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. “For over a quarter of a century, Toyota has had the privilege of presenting the SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards to the toughest racers on the planet.”

Baja 1000 the mammoth finale of the five-race 2011 SCORE Desert Series will be a loop race starting and finishing in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, with race week festivities scheduled for Nov. 17.-20. 2011. A solid total of 202 vehicles officially entered in time for last Saturday’s drawing held at SCORE International’s headquarters in Los Angeles. The race itself starts on Friday, Nov. 18 2011. With late entries accepted up until race morning, nearly 300 entries from over 30 US States and 15 countries are expected to take the green flag in the 692.82-mile course, competing in 35 Pro and seven Sportsman classes for cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs.
The Baja 1000 is one of the oldest and a well known desert race, and it remains as an appealing accomplishment to a racer. Since 1967, the race has been run over the mysterious Baja California peninsula every year except 1974 when the international fuel crisis forced a cancellation. This year’s race will start for the 37th time and finish for the 21st time in Ensenada. Completing its 38th year as the world’s foremost desert racing sanctioning body, the event is the finale of the five-race 2011 SCORE Desert Series. The race will start and finish on Boulevard Costero adjacent to the picturesque Bahia de Todos Santos in front of the iconic Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center in the heart of Ensenada.
Prerunning on the 692.82-mile loop course will officially begin on Nov 4. 2011.

Reality TV star Jesse James has received the first starting position during Saturday’s drawing for November’s 44th running of the legendary Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race. While James, who lives in Austin, Texas, will pilot his No. 54 Chevy Silverado SCORE Trophy Truck. The motorcycle and ATV classes will start their journey at 6:30 a.m. (Friday, Nov. 18) with the car and truck classes starting at approximately 11:45 a.m., or four hours after the last ATV leaves the line. With the course open for 32 hours in the elapsed-time race, the fastest finishers are expected to complete the course in approximately 14 hours.
