Baja 1000 best story in a long time. Kane Fraser, a paraplegic watched the “Dust to Glory” movie last year and said to himself “I can do that”. So he gets a UTV (Razer 900), pimps it out including hand controls and heads to Baja and the start line for the Baja 1000 2011. Out in front in the middle of the night he misses a turn and heads off towards the Mike’s section without doing the San Felipe loop! He figures out his mistake (awful fast race vehicles as of Trophy Trucks coming in FROM BEHIND), got an access road back to Valle de Trinidad and then the highway back to Borego. Doing so he does about +/- 100 extra miles at night, at Baja. Now – not confirmed -, this Canadian did a) never race before, b) never been to Baja Mexico and c) never been to the desert!! Is that guy one of the famous “Crazy Canucks” out of the late 70′s – early 80′s ????

One this is sure – he is the hero and emotional winner of the 2011 Baja 1000!! At 3:30hr Sunday morning the social media is buzzing about #1802 and Kane Fraser finishing the Baja 1000 almost 2 days after he started!! Trophy Truck #7 Team, themselves timed out of the race after problems most of the race with technical problems gave some support and follow #1802 in to the finish to Ensenada as rolling back-up just in case…. Lot’s of folks been following the progress all night at several discussion boards and on Facebook.

Cameron Steele prepares for 2011 SCORE Baja 1000

Exclusive coverage of Cameron Steele as he prepares for the gnarly 2011 SCORE Baja 1000 course! Join Cameron and his crew as they hop in the four-seat buggy and charge through some gnarly terrain and take a listen to the wisdom Cam has to share! As a Baja legend, Steele has a depth of knowledge and appreciation for the rugged Baja peninsula and is about to unleash it on race day. Starts and finishes on Blvd. Costero, adjacent to the Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center in Ensenada. From the start in Ensenada the course will go east to Ojos Negros for just over 35 miles which will be raced in both directions during the race. From Ojos Negros, the course will travel in a clockwise direction.

From Ojos Negros, the course turns South to El Alamo and then east up through the Summit and makes a South turn at Cohabuzo Junction and on to the the infamous Laguna Salada, paralleling Mexican Highway 5. Next is San Felipe loop where the course will cover some of the rugged MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 course including the magnificent Matomi Wash.

After the San Felipe loop, which travels in a counterclockwise direction from and back to Borrego, the course will head north and northwest, joining Highway 3 for a short distance to the Mike’s Sky Ranch turnoff. Then the course heads to the Pacific Ocean below San Vicente and past Erendira, back inland up through Santo Tomas then turning northeast just past Uruapan winding its way back to Ojos Negros for the final charge back to Ensenada. This year’s race course will feature 6 outlying checkpoints where each vehicle is required to quickly stop before continuing on. Video footage provided by Monster Energy.

SCORE Announces New September Race Will Be Tecate SCORE San Felipe Challenge Of Champions. Insurance issues cause SCORE to move Primm race South of the Border. Tecate SCORE San Felipe Challenge of Champions desert race to be held in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico. SCORE International confirmed today that the next race of five-race 2011 SCORE Desert Series will be the new Tecate SCORE San Felipe Challenge of Champions to be held September 9-11 in San Felipe, Baja, California, Mexico. The race replaces the Primm 300 race that was cancelled this year because of insurmountable insurance issues.

The new race, for 17 Pro and 2 Sportsman classes for cars and trucks, will run over the same course that was recently used for this year’s MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 in March of approximately 250 miles.

After executing the event agreement today in Baja California with SCORE President/CEO Sal Fish, Francisco Perez Tejada Padilla, Mayor of Mexicali stated that, “The cities of Mexicali and San Felipe are pleased to announce that SCORE has decided to continue supporting Baja California by adding another race to their calendar in Mexico. This shows the great communication achieved by the Federal, State and Municipal authorities with Sal Fish. We are pleased that SCORE recognizes our previous hard work and continues to have confidence in our support. This new race will become the epicenter of desert racing during the month of September.”

Fish stated that, “While SCORE regrets ending a 16 year relationship with the Primm Valley Resorts and Las Vegas Events, we are pleased to open a new door with Mexicali and San Felipe and provide our participants with an exciting Baja racing challenge in the friendly, relaxing and scenic city of San Felipe.”

SCORE Desert Series points standing after round 2 (San Felipe 250) of five races for the 2011 SCORE Desert Series championship is close as veteran SCORE Trophy-Truck driver Jesse Jones and young gun unlimited Class 1 racer Justin Davis lead their respective classes and are tied at the top of SCORE point leader board. Colton Udall is leading the motorcycles points. Other leaders include Luke McMillin, Clyde Stacy, Justin Matney, Heidi Steele, Dan Chamlee, Elias Hanna, Perry McNeil, Jessica McMillin, Brandon Brown, Wes Bevly III & Wes Bevly IV. Desert Series points are based on starting, finishing, placement and number of official starters within each class. Jesse Jones, 45, of Litchfield Park, Ariz., and Justin Davis, 17 of Chino Hills, Calif., not only lead their respective classes following Round 2 of the Desert Series, they are tied for the SCORE Overall point lead with 139 point each. Jones, the reigning Trophy Truck and overall point champion, has finished a very close second in both of the first two races of the season in the No. 1 Jones Motorsports Ford F-250 SCORE Trophy-Truck, while Davis, last year’s SCORE Lite point champion, has won Class 1 in both races in the Green Army Motorsports Chevy-powered ESM unlimited open-wheel desert race buggy.
Off-road racers are now preparing for the season’s next race, the 43rd annual Tecate SCORE Baja 500 to be held 2.-5. June 2011 in Ensenada, Mexico. The event will be the second of three SCORE races held annually on the Baja California peninsula.
In starting defense of his impressive championship from 2010 when he won two races in the Trophy Truck class, Jones started the 2011 season finishing runner-up to Las Vegas’ Bryce Menzies by just 59 seconds in Laughlin and then got even closer to the top of the podium in San Felipe, finishing just 44 seconds behind Las Vegas’ Rob MacCachren.

“The key is to stay in the hunt early and be in a position to win it all at the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 in November and I would say we are on target so far,” said Jones, who also won the 2001 SCORE Class 8 season point title. “We could have won one or both of the first two races, but both Bryce and Rob did a better job and while we want to win races, it is equally gratifying to win the season point championship in SCORE Trophy-Truck—the most competitive class with the world’s best drivers in the entire sport of desert racing.”

Following his first SCORE Trophy-Truck race win in just his second race in this class for high-tech, 850-horsepower, unlimited production trucks, rookie Menzies finished sixth in San Felipe and is currently fourth overall and third in the Trophy Truck division points this year with 135 points in the No. 70 Menzies Motorsports Ford F-150.

Picking up his eighth career SCORE Trophy-Truck race win in San Felipe, MacCachren, an eight-time SCORE season point champion, is third in overall and second in SCORE Trophy-Truck points so far after finishing fourth in Laughlin with 138 points, just one shy of Jones and Davis in the No. 20 MasterCraft Racing Ford F-150. Following consistent seventh and fifth-place finishes in the season’s first two events, Gary Weyhrich, Troutdale, Ore., is fifth in overall points and fourth in SCORE Trophy-Truck with 119 in the No. 98 TSCO Motorsports Ford F-150.

Breaking off-road news!! Danica Patrick and Cameron Diaz to team up for this year SCORE Baja 500 and Baja 1000 racing an all new Dodge – Fiat V10 Trophy Truck. A secretly build up all female trophy truck team! As team principal and financial backer Oprah Winfrey announced to Puro Off-Road exclusive will Roseanne Barr fill the crew chief position. Public relations are overseen by Monica Lewis as press officer of the new “SQD-2-Pi” Trophy Truck Team. Principal team sponsor is “Kotex U” and “Oil of Olay” lubricants and Alize beverage. With this brand-new trophy truck factory support returns to the off-road sport.

Other noticeable developments at “SQD 2 Pi” – it is not a 100% female team only. During a scouting session down to Baja a destination management team member from Sprinter Rentals San Diego overheard a conversation that a former MX’er nick-named “Dogger” is responsible for the “chill-out” times and to calm situations before the race while James “Bubba” Steward may also join the team bringing in his unique road clearance capabilities as chase truck driver. It is not verified yet if red and blue lights are allowed in Mexico.

Racemap San Felipe 250 preliminary SCORE Intl. release here at Puro Offroad Prerun San Felipe 250 (Click the San Felipe Racemap image below). Desert racers Nick Vanderwey of Arizona and Chad Thornton of New Mexico received the pole positions for four-wheel and two-wheel vehicles in the drawing for starting positions. Round 2 of the 2011 SCORE Desert Series will be held 10.-13. March 2011 in Mexico’s picturesque fishing village of San Felipe, located 120 miles south of the U.S. border on the East side of the Baja California peninsula along the azure waters of the tranquil Sea of Cortez. The green flag will drop at 6 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, for the motorcycle and ATV classes, followed three hours after the last Sportsman ATV later by the car and truck classes at approximately 10 a.m. Webcast during pre-race events (contingency) and during the race at Puro Off-Road, sign up for the reminder!!
Following January’s season-opening SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge, this US Desert Racing Series will be visiting Mexico for the first of its three annual SCORE Baja races. Last year’s overall 4-wheel, 2-wheel and ATV champions are all expected to again be part of the field. Last year’s overall 4-wheel champion was the unlimited Class 1 All German Motorsports team of Armin Schwarz, Germany/Martin Christensen, Escondido, Calif. (Denmark), 2-wheel champion was the JCR Honda team of Colton Udall/Jeff Kargola, San Clemente, Calif. on a Honda CRF450X and the Overall ATV winner was the team of Wayne Matlock, El Cajon, Calif./Josh Caster, El Cajon, Calif./Wes Miller, Los Angeles, on a Honda TRX700X. Also entered is Jesse Jones, Litchfield Park, Ariz., the reigning SCORE Desert Series overall season point champion who also won the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck in this race last year in his No. 1 Jones Motorsports Ford F-150.

SCORE International Announces Four of Five Races Scheduled to Comprise 2011 SCORE Desert Series. Preparing to celebrate its 38th year as a North American desert racing sanctioning body, SCORE international officially announced four of its five races scheduled for the 2011 SCORE Desert Series. “Although we aren’t in a position to announce final plans for our August/September race date, SCORE is very pleased to officially announce the other four race dates for our five-race 2011 SCORE Desert Series,” said Sal Fish. “The U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife has determined that because of concerns with the desert tortoise, the Bureau of Land Management cannot permit any desert races during the month of September in the Primm area.” This puts SCORE in a very tough situation regarding a relationship and a race we have enjoyed so much for 15 years in Primm. SCORE is exploring all options regarding this race, including a move to August and possibly moving our September race to another venue, although that is certainly not our first preference. Another very great concern of ours is to attempt as best we can not to schedule our races to conflict with other promoters’ dates.
“Our three SCORE Baja races annually produce over $30 million in overall economic impact for Mexico and we are so well-received down there by the government and the fans it’s a real treat for SCORE and our racers and we looking forward to racing in Baja every year.”

Keeping the same venues and the same race weekends for four of its desert races, the 2011 SCORE Desert Series so far has one race in Southern Nevada and its three SCORE Baja races in Mexico. After being held a week later for several years, the season-opening SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge was moved back to its traditional dates on the Martin Luther King holiday weekend in 2010 and will be again in 2011. Las Vegas Events approved the sponsorship of the 2011 event in September.
“We have incredible marketing partners on both sides of the border, the world’s greatest desert racers and the world’s toughest race courses, so we are working diligently to finalize the details for our five race in 2011,” added Fish. “Our race schedule in both the U.S. and Mexico offers tremendous variety for the racers, sponsors, media and fans.”
“With necessary restrictions in place for spectators in the U.S. still our attendance continues to rise, but in Mexico, it’s absolutely unbelievable. Our crowds for the last 12 races in Baja California have averaged over 250,000 (according to Baja California tourism officials), and SCORE racers are as popular in Baja California as any racing figures anywhere in the world.”

Round 2 and 3 of the 2010 SCORE Desert Series will both be held in Mexico.

The 43rd anniversary of the vastly popular Tecate SCORE Baja 500, 2.-5. of June 2011 in Ensenada, Baja California.
17.-20. November 2011 – 44th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, Baja California, Mexico. SCORE officials will announce by the first part of next year exactly where the 2011 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 will start and finish.

Next month Motorex KTM Off-Road racers Ben Grabham (Grabbo), and Brad Williscroft (Wonka), will take to Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula for the famed Baja 1000 with extra support from Force Accessories who have come on board as a major team supporter.
Taking place from November 19 to 22 the Baja 1000 will see Grabbo and Wonka 2009 Finke Desert Race first and second podium holders, ride the KTM 530 EXC over a 631 mile (1000 kilometre) loop racing, starting and finishing in Ensenada.
The duo have been trying to raise much needed funds to contribute to the entry fees and expenses required to enter Baja, which have now been eased with a welcoming donation from Force Accessories.
Force Accessories develop and distribute specialty motorcycle products to enhance protection during racing with their primary products being radiator guards, bash plates and case savers. The company has supported riders in many of Australia’s leading off-road events including the Australian Safari, Finke Desert Race, Australian Four Day Enduro, Hattah Desert Race and Condo 750.
Now setting their sights on Baja, Force Accessories, Director Brian Finn, said, “It’s a great privilege to Force Accessories to help out with the Team Australia assault on the Baja 1000. When we heard of the effort KTM was putting in to help out Grabbo and Wonka it was something we just had to be involved in, particularly when it includes two of the greatest Australian off-road riders, and we wish Grabbo and Wonka a safe and successful event.”

Motorex KTM Off-Road Racing will feature Force Accessories on their racing uniforms for the Baja 1000 and also use their products on the KTM 530 EXC race bike.
