For the second time in three years, the Southern California son and father race team of Andy and Scott McMillin have etched their names again on the granite history of the world’s most legendary desert race and along with the team of Kendall Norman/Quinn Cody/Logan Holladay advanced their part in motorsports history by capturing the overall 4wheel and 2wheel victories in the 44th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race. The season finale of the five-race 2011 SCORE Desert Series ended late Saturday in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.
Andy McMillin, 24, and his father Scott McMillin, 51, of San Diego, teamed as they did in this race in 2009 to capture the overall 4wheel title in the granddaddy of all desert racing in their No. 31 McMillin Realty Ford F-150 SCORE Trophy Truck. SCORE Desert Series points standing after round 2 (San Felipe 250) of five races for the 2011 SCORE Desert Series championship is close as veteran SCORE Trophy-Truck driver Jesse Jones and young gun unlimited Class 1 racer Justin Davis lead their respective classes and are tied at the top of SCORE point leader board. Colton Udall is leading the motorcycles points. Other leaders include Luke McMillin, Clyde Stacy, Justin Matney, Heidi Steele, Dan Chamlee, Elias Hanna, Perry McNeil, Jessica McMillin, Brandon Brown, Wes Bevly III & Wes Bevly IV. Desert Series points are based on starting, finishing, placement and number of official starters within each class. Tom Klauer to drive for Western Motorsports in famed 2010 Baja 1000
It may be five-months away, but the most grueling long distance off-road race known to man takes months of preparation. Western Motorsports began preparing today by announcing the driver lineup and primary sponsors for their Pro Truck Ford entry into the 43rd Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. Veteran road course racer Tom Klauer will make his off-road debut in the event along with team regulars Dave Mason and Rick Backus. Primary sponsors for the #1265 Pro Truck Ford will be Pick-n-Pull Self-Service Auto and Truck Dismantlers and Eleven Western Builders.
The race will begin in Ensenada, Mexico on November 17th and competitors will drive under the clock attempting to finish in La Paz, Mexico located at the bottom of the Baja California Peninsula. Dave Mason is a former winner of the prestigious motorsports event and carries over 20-years of Baja Racing experience. Rick Backus is a long time team owner-sponsor, who has taken over as a driver and racked up impressive finishes over the last several years at the Pro Truck level. Tom Klauer was added to form a trio due to the long enduring race. Although it will mark Klauer’s first-ever Baja off-road race he’s no stranger to the terrain or to driving race cars.
