Andy & Scott McMillin capture Trophy Truck, overall 4wheel victory

For the second time in three years, the Southern California son and father race team of Andy and Scott McMillin have etched their names again on the granite history of the world’s most legendary desert race and along with the team of Kendall Norman/Quinn Cody/Logan Holladay advanced their part in motorsports history by capturing the overall 4wheel and 2wheel victories in the 44th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race. The season finale of the five-race 2011 SCORE Desert Series ended late Saturday in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.
Andy McMillin, 24, and his father Scott McMillin, 51, of San Diego, teamed as they did in this race in 2009 to capture the overall 4wheel title in the granddaddy of all desert racing in their No. 31 McMillin Realty Ford F-150 SCORE Trophy Truck. Andy McMillin is 2011 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 Trophy Truck winner and Menzies is crowned 2011 Desert Series Trophy Truck Champion. Nick Vanderwey, Trophy Truck No. 84 (Second in class and second overall four-wheel vehicle. Vanderwey shared driving duties with Curt LeDuc.) statement: What a race – holy moly. We started sixth and Curt (LeDuc) set an easy pace, wanted to take it easy and got over the summit and then he threw on the boosters and took off. I’m still catching my breath. This was something else.

27 SCORE racers remain in hunt for Toyota Milestone

27 SCORE racers remain in hunt for Toyota Milestone awards heading to season ending 44th annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. Following the fourth of five races in the 2011 SCORE Desert Series, 27 of SCORE’s toughest drivers remain in the hunt to earn 2011 SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards.
Leading the way are eight racers in the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division and four in the Class 1 for unlimited open-wheelers.
The eight SCORE Trophy-Truck drivers who have completed every race mile so far this season are: Bryce Menzies, Las Vegas (No. 70, Ford F-150), Rob MacCachren, Las Vegas (No. 20, Ford F-150), Gus Vildosola Jr., Mexicali, Mexico (No. 21, Ford F-150), Pete Sohren, Phoenix (No. 2, Ford F-150), Gary Weyhrich, Troutdale, Ore. (No. 98, Ford F-150), Adam Householder, Orange, Calif. (No. 24, Chevy Silverado), Jesse Ashcraft, San Marcos, Calif. (No. 78, Ford F-150) and Ken Losch, Tempe Ariz. (No. 10, Chevy Silverado). Baja 1000 race course map

Baja 1000 the mammoth finale of the five-race 2011 SCORE Desert Series will be a loop race starting and finishing in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, with race week festivities scheduled for Nov. 17.-20. 2011. A solid total of 202 vehicles officially entered in time for last Saturday’s drawing held at SCORE International’s headquarters in Los Angeles. The race itself starts on Friday, Nov. 18 2011. With late entries accepted up until race morning, nearly 300 entries from over 30 US States and 15 countries are expected to take the green flag in the 692.82-mile course, competing in 35 Pro and seven Sportsman classes for cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs.
The Baja 1000 is one of the oldest and a well known desert race, and it remains as an appealing accomplishment to a racer. Since 1967, the race has been run over the mysterious Baja California peninsula every year except 1974 when the international fuel crisis forced a cancellation. This year’s race will start for the 37th time and finish for the 21st time in Ensenada. Read the rest of this entry »

SCORE Desert Series points standing after round 2 (San Felipe 250) of five races for the 2011 SCORE Desert Series championship is close as veteran SCORE Trophy-Truck driver Jesse Jones and young gun unlimited Class 1 racer Justin Davis lead their respective classes and are tied at the top of SCORE point leader board. Colton Udall is leading the motorcycles points. Other leaders include Luke McMillin, Clyde Stacy, Justin Matney, Heidi Steele, Dan Chamlee, Elias Hanna, Perry McNeil, Jessica McMillin, Brandon Brown, Wes Bevly III & Wes Bevly IV. Desert Series points are based on starting, finishing, placement and number of official starters within each class. Jesse Jones, 45, of Litchfield Park, Ariz., and Justin Davis, 17 of Chino Hills, Calif., not only lead their respective classes following Round 2 of the Desert Series, they are tied for the SCORE Overall point lead with 139 point each.
